BubbleRead is designed with privacy in mind. BubbleRead does not operate any backend servers and does not collect, store, or sell your personal information.

Local Storage

All application settings, including your preferences and OpenAI API keys (if provided), are stored locally on your device.

This information is never transmitted to or stored on any servers operated by BubbleRead.

Android Text-to-Speech

When using Android Text-to-Speech, the text you choose to read aloud is processed by the speech engine available on your device.

BubbleRead does not transmit your text to any servers operated by BubbleRead.

OpenAI Features

BubbleRead offers optional features powered by OpenAI: OpenAI Text-to-Speech and OpenAI Autocorrect. These features are active only if you explicitly choose to use them and provide your own OpenAI API key.

For both features, BubbleRead acts only as a client connecting directly from your device to OpenAI API over HTTPS. BubbleRead does not proxy, inspect, log, or store these requests.

OpenAI Text-to-Speech

If you choose OpenAI as your speech provider, the text you explicitly choose to read aloud and your OpenAI API key are sent directly from your device to OpenAI’s /v1/audio/speech endpoint over HTTPS for the sole purpose of generating speech.

OpenAI Autocorrect

If you enable autocorrect, the text you choose to read aloud and your OpenAI API key are sent directly from your device to OpenAI’s /v1/chat/completions endpoint over HTTPS for the sole purpose of correcting grammatical errors, spelling, and missing diacritics before speech generation.

Corrections may be kept briefly in a memory-only cache to avoid duplicate requests. This cache is never written to disk.

OpenAI’s Data Handling

OpenAI’s handling of API data is governed by its own policies and documentation:

Data Collection

BubbleRead does not:

• collect analytics;
• display advertisements;
• use advertising SDKs;
• use third-party tracking technologies;
• maintain user accounts;
• store the text you read, correct, or generate speech from;
• collect usage history.

Network Communication

BubbleRead communicates over the network only when required by the features you choose to use.

• Android Text-to-Speech: BubbleRead does not perform network communication for speech generation.
• OpenAI Text-to-Speech and OpenAI Autocorrect: Your device communicates directly with OpenAI’s API over HTTPS. BubbleRead does not proxy these requests through any BubbleRead-operated servers.

Your Control

You control:

• whether to use Android Text-to-Speech or OpenAI Text-to-Speech;
• whether to enable OpenAI Autocorrect;
• whether to provide an OpenAI API key;
• the text that is processed for correction and speech generation.

You may remove your OpenAI API keys at any time by deleting them from the application’s settings or uninstalling the application.

Your Rights and Data Protection

Because BubbleRead does not operate backend servers, all personal data remains under your control on your device.

• Access and deletion: You can access or delete all locally stored data at any time through your device’s system settings (Settings > Apps > BubbleRead > Storage > Clear storage) or by uninstalling the app.
• Data retention: BubbleRead does not retain your data on any external servers. Data is kept only as long as the app remains installed on your device.
• No automated decision-making: BubbleRead does not use algorithms to profile users or make automated decisions.
• Third-party data: When using OpenAI Text-to-Speech or OpenAI Autocorrect, data is sent directly to OpenAI. Please refer to OpenAI’s privacy policy for information on how they handle your data.
